Many nonprofits have adopted Microsoft SharePoint as part of Microsoft 365—but few organizations are using it in a structured, intentional way.

This session is designed to help organizations move beyond basic file storage and begin using SharePoint as a reliable, organized system for managing documents, permissions, and internal collaboration.

Participants will learn how SharePoint fits into the broader Microsoft ecosystem, including Microsoft Teams and OneDrive, and how to avoid common pitfalls that lead to confusion and disorganization.

The focus of this class is not technical configuration, but practical implementation—how to set up a system that staff can actually use consistently.

Areas covered:

  • Understanding what SharePoint is (and what it is not)
  • How SharePoint works with Teams and OneDrive
  • Structuring your document libraries for clarity and consistency
  • Folder vs metadata: when to use each
  • Managing permissions and access (who sees what, and why it matters)
  • Avoiding common mistakes that lead to disorganized systems
  • Creating a simple, organization-wide approach to file management

Included with this session:

  • SharePoint Structure Template – sample folder/library structure for nonprofits
  • Permissions Guide – practical explanation of access levels and best practices
  • File Organization Checklist – how to clean up and standardize existing files
  • Governance Starter Framework – simple rules for maintaining order over time

Each class is live, instructor-led, and online. Questions are always welcome. This session is CEU-rated and focuses on practical, real-world implementation.

We have morning, afternoon and evening classes available.  See the drop-down menu in the section below to find available classes.
