Once a non-profit organization is awarded funding, it is generally required to meet certain reporting requirements – procedures that grant recipients must follow to ensure that the grant funding is used correctly.  Grant Management and Reporting generally entails two interconnected types of management reporting: Narrative Reports and Budget-based Reporting.

 

NARRATIVE REPORTS
General Best Practices:

Project Based Reporting, General Operating Expense Reporting, Setting Goals/Objectives to manage and evaluate Projects and Operating Expenses

Best Practices by Grant Source:
1. Federal Grant Reporting (including special issues with reimbursement-only grants)
2. State and Local Grant Reporting, including city/county reporting
3. Private Grant Reporting (including Community Foundations, Corporate/Company Foundations and Family Foundations)

Effective Narrative Strategies:
outlining your narrative, matching form to function, providing documentation

 

BUDGET-BASED REPORTING

Non-Profit Specific Financial Terms, Balance Sheet/Statement of Financial Position, Statement of Activities/Revenue Statement, Statement of Cash Flows, Chart of Accounts, Form 990

The Non-Profit Bookkeeping Process:
1. Transactions

4, Reports – General Reports (Financial, Managerial and Tax), Donor-based Reports

Managerial Reports:
1. Budget (and its relationship to the Chart of Accounts)
2. Costing and other Pricing Strategies

4. Performance Evaluation

The Budgeting Process:
1. Developing a Master Budget
2. Strategic Planning vs. Operational Budgeting
3. Benchmarking
4. Avoiding “Budgetary Slack”

 

Participants will receive a certificate of completion.  All sessions of this class are currently virtual.  Participation is easy; all you need is an internet connection.  We have morning, afternoon and evening classes available.
