Section 1: Overview
Non-profits are unique in the world of marketing because they inevitably need to market for not one, but two discreet sides of their organization – their mission and their fundraising programs. A food bank, for example, needs to market the services it provides to the hungry (its mission) and market its requests for food and money to be donated (its fundraising program).
Questions to Consider:
- What are your main mission marketing objectives for the year?
- What are your main fundraising marketing objectives for the year?
NOTE: Please answer the following questions in light of both your mission marketing and your fundraising programs:
- Are you hunting Elephants or Rabbits, or are you a Farmer?
- Where do you have gaps in your marketing?
- What new marketing channels do you hope to try?
- What do you do to generate Brand Awareness?
- Who are the decision makers you are trying to reach?
- What do you do to identify decision makers?
- What do you do to acquire prospects, such as online forms with special offers and social listening?
- How have you reached out to your prospects?
- What do you do to nurture your prospects – that is building relationships and trust?
- How do you qualify leads if at all?
- Is your marketing B2B, B2C, B2G, or to other Non-Profits?
- Is your customer base Local, Regional, National, or Somewhere Else?
- Have you registered your Non-Profit with Google My Business and Bing?
- How visual is your Mission or Service activities?
- Do you attend or organize events as part of your marketing efforts?
- What percentage of your clients are repeat clients?
- What percentage of your funders are repeat funders?
- Do you rely on Strategies of Scale (providing the same thing to many people) and/or Strategies of Scope (providing many services to the same people)?
- Do you typically utilize Traditional customer demographics (location, age, income, etc.) or Specific customer demographics (change of life, interests)?
- Do you utilize any CRM platforms, such as Salesforce and Hubspot, OR do you utilize the CRM process using other platforms, such as Outlook and QuickBooks, OR are you unfamiliar with the CRM process?
- Do you evaluate Social Media marketing differently than Traditional Advertising?
- Do you use any Social Media dashboards such as HootSuite or Buffer?
- Do you utilize A/B testing in any of your marketing?
